Some Comments From Our Current Recipients:

"To the Members of the New York Council, Navy League:

I am honored to be the recipient of the NY Council Navy League scholarship and want to thank you for your generosity in funding this award.

I am currently a Junior majoring in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.  While taking 15 credits this past semester, I also successfully completed my one-year term as Treasurer of Sigma Delta Tau (a 100+ member national sorority).  During my term, SDT donated more than $2,000 to Prevent Child Abuse of America, $500 to the American Red Cross to aid Katrina victims, and almost $1,100 to other philanthropic and relief organizations.

This coming semester, I will train the new treasurer of SDT, and then contribute my time and talents to some of the other organizations at Cornell, while continuing to stay active in SDT.  I am also very excited for the Spring semester because of my interesting course load.  I will be taking courses that put an emphasis on Human resources, Organizational Development, Collective Bargaining and Business Management.

I hope you all have a Happy New Years, and Holiday Season.  Once again, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your support!  Best wishes,"

- Kimberly E. Nosek

"As I begin the second semester of my sophomore year at Columbia University, I wish to once again thank the Scholarship Committee of the New York Council of the Navy League for the financial assistance provided me.  This assistance is applied to tuition costs and is very helpful to me and my family.  When I graduate, I will always remember and be grateful to the New York Council for its generous support.  I have enclosed a copy of my most recent official transcript for your perusal.  I am able to maintain such high grades in part due to the support I am receiving from the Navy League."

- Lauren K. La Torre

"I am sending you my first semester grades.  I find the workload to be much more than I expected, however, I managed to do well my first semester by focusing on my studies.  The college experience is very different yet enjoyable.  I would like to thank the Navy League again for their wonderful contribution towards my education."

- Jessica Stark

"Thank you so much for your continued support of my education here at Harvard.  I had a very challenging but rewarding school year.  I took a full class load while working approximately 20 hours per week in a lab at the Whitehead Institute.  In September my lab mentor and I filed a patent for the technology we've been working on, and in June we published an article in the journal Nature Biotechnology.  These opportunities are hard to come by anywhere else, and that is why I am so very appreciative of your scholarship award.  I have enclosed a copy of the published journal article for you.  The article is very technical, but it should give you an idea of what I've been working on.

- Jehnna L. Ronan
