Coast Guard Art Program Opening Reception and Acceptance Ceremony

  • Salmagundi Club 47 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

New York Council Navy League will once again partner with the Salmagundi Club to sponsor the Opening Reception and Acceptance Ceremony for 34 new works by 24 artists to be accepted into the Coast Guard Art Program collection.

The Coast Guard Art Program uses fine art to depict the United States Coast Guard's multi-faceted missions. Through displays at museums, libraries and patriotic events, Coast Guard art tells the story of the service's missions, heroes and history to the public. Art is also displayed in offices of members of Congress, senior officials of the executive branch of government and other military services and at Coast Guard locations throughout the country.

Pictured here is a detail from the 2024 George Gray award-winning painting from COGAP artist Ken Stetz, “Absorbing the roll.” The work depicts Coast Guard Cutters ANGELA MCSHAN and SENECA conducting joint search and rescue drills. Crew members aboard ANGELA MCSHAN brace against heavy rolls as SENECA makes its approach during a simulated disabled vessel drill. The cutter ANGELA MCSHAN stands dead in the water during the drill, simulating the challenging rescue cases these cutters address.

Registration is already full for this event. If you are a New York Council member and would like to join the waitlist, please send an email to info@nynavyleague.org.

To view the exhibit outside of the Opening Reception, you can check hours at the Salmagundi website.
