Volunteer opportunities for New York Council Members

CHECK BACK HERE TO LEARN HOW YOU CAN GET MORE INVOLVED WITH YOUR COUNCIL

The New York Council relies on the support of our members to continue our mission in support of the sea services. There are always new opportunities for those who would like to play a more active role in our Council to get involved.

Email us at info@nynavyleague.org if you are interested in getting involved or have any questions regarding any opportunities listed.

Joining a committee is a great way for members to have a more active voice in our Council and keep up to date with Council activities while catering to their own skills and interests. Our committee chairs are always welcoming new members to aid in their efforts.

Committees open to all members are: Development, Education and Advocacy: Legislative Affairs, Education and Advocacy: Public Education, Fleet Support: Fleet Week, Fleet Support: Unit Support, Membership, Youth Programs: Events and Youth Programs: Speakers Bureau.

If you are interested in joining a committee and/or would like to learn more, you can fill out this Membership Involvement Survey and a committee chair will contact you.

Fleet Week New York is an integral part of the New York Council’s history, and we are grateful and eager to take part each year.

If you are interested and would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities around future Fleet Week planning, please reach out to our Assistant Director, Karina Verna, at kverna@nynavylegaue.org. We are typically especially in need of volunteers to help coordinate ships tours in Staten Island and Manhattan, distribute Broadway tickets to local and visiting sea service personnel, and spread the word about the New York Council Navy League at tabling events.

In 2026 we will need more volunteers than ever, as we celebrate our Nation’s 250th birthday with Tall Ships and an International Naval Review.

Join the Navy League on Capitol Hill to advocate for the sea services at the “Anchor’s Aweigh” Congressional Fly-In, usually held in May.

To learn more about this unique opportunity, contact Regional VP of Legislative Affairs Joe Fila at josephfila1@gmail.com.

In early August, New York Council volunteers gather at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island to staff the children’s area and an information table during USCG Sector New York’s celebration of Coast Guard Day. We also have other opportunities throughout the year to interact with our local adopted units and serve as a Council Ambassador. Watch for emails about signing up for these rewarding and fun opportunities.
