USCGC Vincent Danz — one of two Coast Guard Cutters to be commissioned in 2026 honoring the service and sacrifice of 9/11 heroes

25 years — never forget

On the morning of September 11, 2001, 71 law enforcement officers from eight local, state and federal agencies were killed when terrorist hijackers working for the al Qaeda terrorist network crashed passenger jets into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

After the impact of the first plane into the World Trade Center’s North Tower, New York City police officers, fire fighters and EMS personnel put the safety of others before their own, rushing to the burning “Twin Towers” to aid victims and lead them to safety.

Two of those heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice were also U.S. Coast Guard Reservists. In 2026, we will recognize their service and sacrifice with the commissioning of two USCG cutters named in their honor — USCGC Vincent Danz and USCGC Jeffrey Palazzo.

One step closer to commissioning

U.S. Coast Guard accepted delivery of the 62nd Fast Response Cutter, USCGC Vincent Danz (WPC 1162), on Thursday, March 5, 2026 in Key West. Named after an NYPD officer and USCG reservist who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11, the ship will visit NYC for commissioning in late May before being homeported in Guam.

Individuals, civic organizations and businesses are all invited to join us in preparing to celebrate these two heroes and the ships that will carry their names. If you are interested, please contact us at info@nynavyleague.org.
