MK1 JEFFREY PALAZZO
Get to know this Coast Guard and FDNY Hero
Jeffrey Palazzo dedicated his life to service, first with the United States Coast Guard and later with the New York City Fire Department.
Palazzo served eight years on active duty in the Coast Guard as a machinery technician. His assignments included Coast Guard Cutter Cape Horn and Station Chatham, Massachusetts, where he qualified as a 47-foot motor life boat crew member. He later continued his Coast Guard service as a reservist.
Palazzo also served New York City as a firefighter with FDNY Rescue Company 5 on Staten Island. On September 11, 2001, he responded to the World Trade Center following the terrorist attacks. He was among the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.
His legacy of service continues 25 years later. In 2026, the United States Coast Guard named its 63rd Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutter in his honor. USCGC Jeffrey Palazzo (WPC 1163) will carry his name, his story, and his commitment to service as part of the Coast Guard fleet.
